Car wash for Juarez
Friends and family members of Richard Juarez, the 20-year-old Olympic High School graduate who was shot and killed Tuesday after leaving an art class at Virginia Avenue Park, are hosting a car wash at Santa Monica High School Sunday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise money for the Juarez family.
Apryll Juarez-Lightell , a cousin of Juarez, said the car wash will be held in the Senior Parking Lot at Samohi. All funds will go to the parents of Juarez.

Library promotes job skills with new services
The recession may be officially over, but those entering the job market may still find themselves in need of assistance to get back to business.
The Santa Monica Public Library is working to provide that assistance with JobNow and the Adult Learning Center: Two new computer-based resources designed to help adults who are reentering the job market, preparing to take the GED, or simply retooling a few basic job skills.
JobNow is an online resource in which trained coaches offer career counseling and job interview tips via live Internet chat sessions. Coaches also offer resume editing services, as well as sample resume templates and numerous other resources.
With the Adult Learning Center, those seeking help developing math, reading and writing skills, learning to use Microsoft Office applications, and preparing for GED or citizenship examinations can go online to receive live assistance from experts.
Library cardholders can access both services for free at www.smpl.org/research. JobNow and the Adult Learning Center can be accessed from private computers, or at any branch of the Santa Monica Public Library.

No need to fret over wine selection
With stress already running high, nobody has time to waste fretting over which wine to serve with the turkey.
That’s why the Loews Hotel is reintroducing its “Wine Line” — a free service available to help guests and locals answer all their wine-related questions.
“For years, our loyal guests from across the country have been contacting our hotels during the holiday season to ask questions of our chefs and sommeliers,” said Jonathan Tisch, CEO of Loews Hotels. “The Loews Hotels Wine Line is our way of sharing the vast wine and food knowledge among our sommeliers and chefs with everyone.”
Those interested in using Wine Line’s services can contact the Loews Hotel’s wine experts via e-mail at wineline@loewshotel.com or post their questions on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LoewsHotels. Certified sommeliers will respond to all questions within 24 hours.
The Wine Line will be available until Jan. 1, 2010.
“Regardless of what your wine dilemmas may be,” Tisch said, “we’ll help put the ‘cheers’ back into the season of cheer.”
