CityTV 16, Santa Monica’s public access channel, took home three first-place trophies at the annual STAR Awards, presented by the States of California and Nevada of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors.
For the eighth time in 11 years, CityTV 16 won the Overall Excellence Award, beating out the cities of Long Beach and Torrance in the category, which were awarded second and third place, respectively.
The overall excellence award is doled out to those who put out the highest quality programming, said Robin Gee, CityTV station manager.
“We’re excited and delighted and thrilled,” Gee said. “We work very hard year-round to do high-quality programming, and it’s nice to have it acknowledged this way.”
CityTV won first place in the Performing Arts category for its Twilight Dance Series concert coverage of Italian singer/rapper Jovanotti. The station also took home the top spot in the public service announcement category.
For the Talk, Municipal Channel Promo, Public/Community Meetings and Election categories, CityTV was awarded second place.
CityTV received third place in the Magazine and Public Affairs categories.
The station has received several Emmy awards in the past, and is often chosen “Best Government Channel” by SCAN NATOA.
