DOWNTOWN CityTV, the government access cable channel for the City of Santa Monica, has announced its “Vote 2008” line-up of Santa Monica election programming for this year’s election.
The line-up includes 19 election shows covering the City Council race, college board, school board, Rent Control Board and three ballot measures. All of CityTV’s election programming is produced in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica Education Fund and the Center for Governmental Studies.
“We’ve worked hard to make it easy for voters to learn about the candidates and their stands on the issues in this election,” said League of Women Voters of Santa Monica President Amy Bishop-Dunbar. “We have something for everyone, from short candidate statements to one-hour forums.”
Research by the Center for Governmental Studies has shown CityTV offers the best programming in the state.
“CityTV is well known for its quality election programming,” said Tracy Westen, vice chairman and CEO of the center. “Santa Monica voters are lucky to have such a great resource available to them 24/7 until election day.”
In addition, CityTV has launched smvote.org as a centralized resource for Santa Monica election information. The Web site provides candidate statements, videos, CityTV election program schedules and useful election links.
CityTV election programming is available in a variety of ways. Scheduled election programming is shown on cable channel 16. A rotation of election programs airs 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on cable channel 99. In addition, videos are available on the Web at smvote.org. In the near future, election videos will be available for free on Time Warner’s OnDemand system.
CityTV, Santa Monica’s government access television channel 16, reaches over 24,000 local cable television households. In addition to election programming, CityTV airs a variety of local news, sports, performing arts and public meeting coverage.
