Police took a man into custody in the ocean near Santa Monica Pier Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly ran from officers who tried to arrest him for burglary in Venice.
Los Angeles Police Department officers tried to arrest the man around 1:50 near Paloma Avenue and Ocean Front Walk. He ran away and began wading north through the water near the edge of the beach, according to LAPD. He reached Santa Monica after 2 p.m.
Officers ran after him along the sand with a police helicopter overhead and into the ocean near the pier, where they arrested him at about 2:30 p.m.
