The Santa Monica Police Department has arrested a suspect who attempted to rob a Brinks armored truck with a knife earlier today.
According to Lt. Candice Cobarrubias, a Brinks armored truck was making its rounds and had stopped at the corner of Arizona and Third when a suspect approached one of the guards with a knife at about 11:15 a.m.
The guard fired his gun at the suspect three times and the suspect managed to grab a bag of money before running away. Officers conducted a grid search of the area and located the suspect about 45 minutes later. They recovered the money and the knife at the scene.
There are no reports of other injuries at this time and SMPD said the area will be clear by about 2 p.m.
