On Tuesday, Aug. 4, neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide, for the 32nd Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. The Santa Monica celebration will be held in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium (1855 Main St.) parking lot from 6 - 8 p.m.
National Night Out is designed to heighten awareness on crime and drug prevention, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
It will involve more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. More than 35 million people are expected to participate.
Local officers said National Night Out is an opportunity for the Santa Monica Police Department and the community to celebrate the exceptional relationship they share. SMPD said the City of Santa Monica continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit because of its strong neighborhood spirit and active community involvement among neighbors, community groups, businesses and youth organizations.
Along with showcasing various police vehicles and equipment, Santa Monica attendees are invited to meet police personnel and enjoy live music, raffles, free food and family-friendly activities including a rock climbing wall, bicycle safety demonstrations and more.
Sustainable transportation options are encouraged.
The Malibu / Lost Hills Sheriff Station will be holding its annual National Night Out from 6 - 8 p.m. on the cul-de-sac block of America Way (cross street is Declaration Avenue) in the Mulwood area of Calabasas. All Calabasas residents are invited to attend this event and should bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, food and beverages. This event will have law enforcement representatives join the community they serve to discuss public safety and related community matters.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Santa Monica Police Officers' Association, The Art Institute of Santa Monica, Pacific Park, Big Blue Bus and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
