On Saturday, March 14, a statewide "Shoulder Tap" decoy operation involving nearly 100 California law enforcement agencies, including the Santa Monica Police Department, will be conducted.
The goal is to reduce crime on the street by arresting adults who furnish alcohol to minors and arresting people for other crimes such as parole violations or warrants for their arrest.
SMPD said the purpose of the pre-St. Patrick's Day undercover operation is to reduce youth access to alcohol and send a clear message that it is illegal for adults to purchase or provide alcohol to persons under the age of 21 and to promote responsible sales of alcohol by licensees.
