Santa Monica businesses now have access to free digital tools to help them compete in the 2025 Most Loved Contest, which opens for nominations on Monday, Feb 10. This annual "people’s choice" competition highlights the city’s favorite businesses, offering winners citywide recognition and stronger customer connections.
This year, participation is easier than ever. Businesses can generate customized QR codes that pre-fill their information in the voting form. They can also request free window clings with built-in QR codes and download printable promotional materials to display at checkout or to share on social media—making it simple to vote.
City economic experts say the contest is a valuable opportunity for free publicity. Even a nomination can boost a business’s visibility.
Launched in 2010 by the Buy Local Santa Monica Committee, Santa Monica Daily Press, and the City of Santa Monica, the Pier, Main Street, Montana Ave and Pico Blvd Business Improvement organizations, the contest now categories such as Food & Drink, Automotive & Transport, Fitness, Shopping, Professional Services and Personal Care.
Businesses looking to increase their chances can promote themselves through Santa Monica Daily Press Get the Win packages, priced from $350 to $750, which will give the businesses over 100k impressions during the contest voting period for the best chance to win. Participation in the contest itself remains free.
“Winning comes down to hundreds of votes, not thousands,” said SMDP Publisher Ross Furukawa, emphasizing that even small promotional efforts can make a difference.
Winners gain more than just bragging rights. They are honored at a celebration at Santa Monica Brew Works, receive official city commendations, and take photos with the mayor and city council. They also earn a shout out in the annual Most Loved magazine, distributed in hotels, businesses, and visitor centers.
Beyond recognition, the contest helps locals and visitors discover Santa Monica’s favorite businesses.
Voting is open from February 10 through March 14.
