Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced the unanimous approval by the Board of Supervisors for a contract with the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles to provide essential job training skills for foster youth ages 18-21, along with onsite housing.
“Upon emancipating from the system, many foster youth find themselves unemployed, on public assistance, homeless, or incarcerated,” said Supervisor Antonovich. “This proposed program through the YWCA is an innovative workforce development partnership for foster youth who can learn job skills while living in a supportive housing environment with other youth.”
The board action will further improve integrated service delivery to serve non-minor dependent foster youth. Programs such as the one offered by the YWCA are a vital part of ensuring foster youth emancipate from the system with the skills necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and lead productive successful adult lives.
