The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica is celebrating national Boys & Girls Club Week by throwing a family festival featuring a chili cook-off on Saturday. This is the first ever chili cook-off hosted by the Boys & Girls Club.
Although participants will have to wait until 4 p.m. for the cook-off to commence, the entire day is packed with family-friendly activities and a free BBQ lunch, lasting from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The annual Biddy Classic basketball tournament, a longtime club tradition, kicks off the family festival. Throughout the day, games and art activities are planned, as well as some educational opportunities. An afternoon college fair will provide teens a chance to speak with representatives from local community colleges, California State schools and more.
Once the evening chili cook-off begins, contestants will wait as their culinary creations are judged in categories such as texture, flavor, aroma and color. After the winners have been awarded and the chili consumed, the day will end with a movie screening on the club’s playfield.
The goal of the festival is to inform the community about the services and programs provided by the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica while, of course, finding out who makes the best chili.
