As a woman experiencing perimenopause, I eagerly anticipated the opportunity to explore Finlay+Green’s skin revitalizing moisturizer designed for menopausal skin after hearing the rave reviews. Since its launch in August 2023, this brand has garnered a devoted fan following, both in the US and Europe.
Created by a well-known Hollywood makeup artist, Helen Marray-Finlay, after she began experiencing the challenges of menopause, this brand recognizes and addresses the shared struggle of 75 million women in the US grappling with either perimenopause, menopause, or postmenopause.
During perimenopause and menopause your skin changes. You are experiencing the second-largest surge in hormone fluctuation since puberty. So, it stands to reason that your skin will change, and why a different approach to skincare is needed. The connection between fluctuating and declining estrogen and skin health is confirmed by a medical report published in the National Library of Medicine.
Excited to see if Finlay+Green’s moisturizer lived up to the hype? Here’s what I found:
First Appearance and Packaging
The packaging has a clean, modern look that appeals to me, especially when I found out that they use responsibly sourced materials. It’s a product that I am proud to have on my bathroom countertop, unlike other menopause brands with their embarrassing and gimmicky product names. Finlay+Green has a sense of style; it’s got a refreshing honest frankness about it. The fact that it’s science-driven also comforts me.
Texture, Scent & Application
Upon application, Finlay+Green's moisturizer impresses with its indulgent texture, effortlessly melting into the skin without any greasy residue. Despite its initial richness it feels remarkably lightweight, providing instant hydration and comfort and an excellent base on which to apply my makeup. The absence of overpowering fragrances is a welcome relief, with a subtle hint of citrus offering a refreshing sensory experience.
A High Performing Moisturizer
What sets Finlay+Green apart is its meticulous approach to menopausal skincare, employing a blend of carefully chosen ingredients to address specific concerns commonly associated with this phase of life. From combating dehydration and loss of collagen to minimizing hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles, each component of the moisturizer serves a purpose in rejuvenating and revitalizing the skin.
Key Ingredients and their benefits
The moisturizer uses highly effective ingredients such as Peptides and Ceramides along with two of my favorites, Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide. Hyaluronic Acid binds moisture to the skin for locked-in hydration, helping to promote elasticity and firmness for that youthful-looking tone, and Niacinamide helps brighten the complexion.
Conscious & Clean
Finlay+Green prides itself on offering clean-conscious, clinically tested, dermatologist-approved formulations that don’t rely on estrogen or added hormones or hormone disruptors for efficacy. The moisturizer is also vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and free of parabens, sulfates and formaldehyde.
Verdict:
The moisturizer has been formulated well with high-quality and effective ingredients.
My skin felt hydrated all day long which is something I have struggled with since entering perimenopause. My skin has a healthy glow to it and my makeup looked so much better from having a great base. I like the fact that I can use it as both a day and night cream as well as a 10-minute face mask. I believe that it more than lives up to the hype.
