The mercury hit 93 at Santa Monica Airport on Friday, likely setting a new high daily temperature record. Although the National Weather Service reported it does not keep official temperature tallies at Santa Monica’s weather stations, nearby UCLA and LAX gauges both broke records for April 8.
“We do keep records at UCLA, which would represent inland Santa Monica, and also at LAX Airport, which would represent coastal Santa Monica,” an NWS representative wrote in an email on Friday afternoon. “Both those sites broke records today. As of 2 p.m., UCLA reached 94 and LAX 96. The highs there may end up a degree or two higher, but we won’t know until 5 p.m. today.” Previously, the daily record for April 8 at UCLA was 87 degrees and 88 at LAX, both set in 1989.
