Curious about your neighborhood school?
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is inviting parents, staff, students and community members to tour five local school campuses in coming weeks. The two-hour events will offer a peek behind the curtain at the campuses where community members can learn about existing facilities and discuss educational needs, historical resources, campus plans and future projects.
Each of the five campuses — John Adams Middle School, or JAMS; Will Rogers Learning Community; Franklin Elementary; McKinley Elementary; and Grant Elementary — are looking to the future with new proposals and plans. There are also pertinent findings in historical consultant reports that community members can learn more about.
“Through these school visits, tour participants will gain a greater understanding of the current status of the school facilities and how improvements will impact student learning and performance,” School District staff wrote. “The school facilities are essentially the ‘third teacher.’ Having modern, updated learning environments engage students in their education.”
The series are the latest step in the District’s campus facility planning process, which began with assessments by architectural consultants to develop ideas for how the campuses will adapt as education changes in the 21st century. The SMMUSD is also requesting parent and neighbor input as plans are finalized.
