With the majority of last year’s Halloween activities marred by a fall COVID surge, residents have much haunting to make up for and fortunately there are a plethora of spooky events happening around town.

Yappy Hour at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows
The Fairmont Miramar is hosting a happy hour for residents and their pups from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Miramar garden area. The event will feature cocktails from Nosotros Tequila, treats from the Healthy Spot and a doggy costume contest where the winner will receive a one-night stay at the Fairmont Miramar. Absolutely Halloween! Musical at Santa Monica Playhouse
Now a SMP Halloween theatre tradition, Absolutely Halloween! is the heartwarming musical tale of the aptly named “Candy,” a sweet young girl who learns some surprising lessons about life, love, laughter and sugar, from a delightful array of colorful costume-come-to-life characters who take her on a magical All Hallows’ Eve adventure to save Halloween for one more year. Tickets cost $15 per adult and $12.50 per kid 12 and under. The show begins at 6 p.m. at 1211 4th St.
Climate Halloween Youth Protest
The LA Youth Climate Movement is organizing a Climate Halloween parade to call for an immediate halt to the expansion of fossil fuels. Participants will gather at 3 p.m. in Tongva Park and at 3:30 p.m. begin their march through Downtown and the Promenade and end at Chase Bank on 4th St. for a rally of speeches and performances. The march aims to protest the continued investment of JPMorgan Chase and other banks in fossil fuels. Participants are encouraged to come in costume as locally endangered species such as honey bees, brown pelicans, Californian condors, vaquita dolphins, bighorn sheep and more.
Coco movie night at the Brentwood Country Mart
The Brentwood Country Mart is hosting a free screening of Coco in the South Courtyard at 6 p.m. Sweet Rose Creamery and Edelweiss Chocolates will have grab and go movie snacks available and viewers are encouraged to grab nibbles and sips from the mart to go with the show. 225 26th St.

The Rooftop Cinema Club is running a series of Halloween movies for drive-in or drive-up viewing — there are car parking spots available alongside tables and chairs. Concessions are available for purchase and free candy is given to viewers in costume. Friday’s films are 5:15 p.m. Nightmare Before Christmas, 7:30 p.m. Beetlejuice and 10:00 p.m. Friday the 13th (1980).

Dia de los Muertos on the Pier (30, 31 & 1)
Together with Pico Youth & Family Center, this inaugural Dia de los Muertos celebration will feature an artistic altar dedicated to the lives of friends and family who have played an important role in the Santa Monica Pier community, traditional Ballet Folklorico, an art installation called “Letters of Life,” and an unmissable Aztec dancing performance. The event will take place inside the Pier Carousel building from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 31 and until 6 p.m. on Nov. 1.
Gourmandise Cooking School: Date Night Halloween Bash

PAL’s “Outdoor Spooktacular” Trunk or Trick event
At this year’s annual Spooktacular, families are invited to a trick or treat while safely distancing and admire festive Halloween decor. Santa Monica Police Department patrol cars will be dressed up in seasonal and Halloween-themed decorations. All are invited to this free community event. 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Memorial Park Parking Lot, 1401 Olympic Blvd.
Esters Wine Shop & Bar Halloween wine tasting
Esters Wine Shop & Bar is open from 3-9 p.m. on Halloween. Their weekly Sunday tasting is Orange Wine-themed for $25/person. Residents can swing by anytime from 3-9 p.m. for pours of four, funky wines and a mini cheese pairing. Those dressed up in a costume will receive a free “Spooky Cocktail” with a purchase of food.
