Crime Watch

SMPD dispatch broadcasted a call on 3rd Street and Bicknell Avenue regarding a traffic hazard. The comments in the call indicated a male subject was found asleep in his truck at the stop sign. As the responding officer approached the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, he was found to be hunched forward as though he was asleep. The driver later identified as Jan Derek Janotta, 51 years old from Van Nuys, was difficult to arouse and unable to respond to the officer’s commands. Based on the strong smell of alcohol and the officer’s professional experience, Janotta was believed to be driving under the influence and booked in the Santa Monica Jail.
