A 49-year-old man was beaten to death early Friday outside a West Hollywood bar and restaurant where he and two suspects had been patrons, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
A fight was reported at 12:27 a.m. at Melrose Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard, but before deputies could get there, Los Angeles police officers were flagged down and found the victim unresponsive in a crosswalk.
Firefighters were unable to revived the victim and he was pronounced dead, a sheriff's department statement said.
Investigators learned that the assailants were a man and woman who fled on foot.
Before the assault, the victim had been at a nearby rooftop bar and restaurant with friends, the statement said. The two suspects were also at the restaurant but investigators did not know if an incident occurred there that led to the assault.
