Santa Monica Public Library is excited to invite the community to participate in a new virtual summer reading program for all ages: Santa Monica Reads All Summer, from June 22 – September 7, 2020.
This year, we’re offering our summer reading program through a fun, virtual platform called Beanstack that allows participants to keep track of the reading and activity challenges they complete. There are online challenges that include activities you can do from and around your home, including reading, to earn points towards being entered in a prize drawing. Kids and teens who complete the program will also be entered into a drawing for book packs. To register for this free program, go to: smpl.beanstack.org.
Attending library programs counts towards your Santa Monica Reads All Summer points, too! Adults and teens are invited to attend one of the virtual book discussions of this year’s Santa Monica Reads title, The Library Book, by Susan Orlean, or the special Author Talk with Susan Orlean herself on Saturday, July 25 at 2 p.m. via Zoom. In this best-selling book, Orlean re-opens the unsolved mystery of the Los Angeles Central Library fire, the most catastrophic library fire in American history. Programs for kids and families start with a bilingual musical concert Kickoff with Baila Baila on Wednesday, June 24 at 1:30 p.m. Other kids’ programs include making 3D selfies using upcycled materials with the reDiscover Center and exploring our Santa Monica Bay with the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. For all program listings, including monthly bilingual story times, go to smpl.org/onlineprograms.
Santa Monica Reads All Summer is provided with funding from The Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library and the California State Library.
