The Santa Monica College Music Department will present the 2020 Spring Jazz Series, with performances by Marvin “Smitty” Smith, HeartBeat Brazil, and Jon Mayer.
The popular concert series opens with Marvin “Smitty” Smith on Friday, March 13. All concerts are held at 7 p.m. in the Music Hall at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica.
Tickets cost $10. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.
The SMC Spring 2020 Jazz Series lineup is:
• Friday, March 13: Marvin “Smitty” Smith. World-renowned drummer and composer Marvin “Smitty” Smith — who has played with Sonny Rollins, Branford Marsalis, Grover Washington Jr., and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno — presents his unique group Black Music Diaspora (BMD).
• Friday, April 3: HeartBeat Brazil Featuring Rob Kyle. Outstanding saxophonist and flautist Rob Kyle joins the vibrant, exciting jazz ensemble HeartBeat Brazil for an energetic concert and lightshow that brings the streets and culture and rhythm of Brazil to America.
• Friday, May 1: Jon Mayer. Bebop master pianist Jon Mayer presents his trio and a very special guest artist.
