On Thursday November, 7 at 7:30 p.m., the Soundwaves new music series at the Santa Monica Public Library welcomes John Schneider and TJ Troy of the Grammy-winning Partch ensemble to the Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium of the Main Library at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
The Partch ensemble specializes in the music of composer/theorist/inventor Harry Partch (1901-1974) using expert re-creations of his handmade instruments. Schneider and Troy will show films of Partch, demonstrate their replica instruments, and play several short pieces.
This performance is a partial preview of the November 9 Jacaranda Music concert which features the compete Partch ensemble and distinguished guests performing “The Wayward,” “Castor & Pollux,” and “Dark Brother.” Tickets are available through jacarandamusic.org Since 2003 Jacaranda has presented world-class artists playing imaginative programs of contemporary and canonical classical music, primarily at Santa Monica’s First Presbyterian Church. Soundwaves offers free previews of excerpts with artist talks the week before most Jacaranda shows.
Soundwaves is a concert series emphasizing artists who appear on the DRAM (Database of Recorded American Music) streaming service. The Santa Monica Public Library is the first public library to offer this service to its cardholders.
