The July 7 Committee For Racial Justice meeting this Sunday evening at Virginia Ave. Park will provide information about the local housing shortage, low income housing, affordable housing, rising rents, evictions and what help may be coming down the pipeline. Their resource speaker is Michael Soloff, the current Chair of the Santa Monica Housing Commission, where he has served as a member for the past five years. The Housing Commission serves as the advisory body to the Housing Authority and City Council.
Soloff is also a member of the Executive Committee of Santa Monicans for Renters Rights and, as a business litigation partner in a local law firm, he has devoted about 20% of his time for more than a decade to providing free legal representation to low income tenants and tenants’ rights organizations.
This Sunday night CRJ will also kick off a new tradition of periodically honoring someone for their community spirit and involvement. The first honoree will be Olla Mitchell, a longtime community member who works to keep us all informed about current issues.
Join organizers for potluck supper at 6 p.m. and an informative & interesting program starting at 6:30 p.m.
