A father pleaded no contest today for driving under the influence with his two 16-year-old sons aboard and getting into a crash with a Metro train in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.
Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Megee said Anthony Manual Beltran Sr., 55, of Connecticut entered the plea to one felony count of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and admitted causing great bodily injury.
Beltran was immediately sentenced to 469 days already served in jail, five years of formal probation, nine months of alcohol classes and one year of parenting classes.
On April 18, 2018, Beltran drove with his two sons through a red light near Lincoln Boulevard and Colorado Avenue and his vehicle was struck by the train, the prosecutor said. The defendant and the boys all were injured in the crash, the prosecutor added.
The defendant's blood alcohol content was .27% at the time it was measured.
The case was investigated by the Santa Monica Police Department.
