The Santa Monica Lions Club, in partnership with the Venice Marina LAX Lions Club, will be taking part in a statewide initiative called Lions Eyes Across California.
On Saturday, March 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Virginia Avenue Park, the two clubs will be collecting old glasses while offering free vision and hearing screenings. There will also be over 100 reconditioned eyeglasses, sorted according to prescription strength, to distribute to those who need new glasses after their eye exams.
The mobile screening unit will be located at the Virginia Avenue Park Farmers Market, at the corner of Pico Boulevard and Cloverfield next to the market breakfast area. You can drop off your old glasses — prescription sunglasses are also welcome — have a free eye exam, have your hearing checked and learn more about how Lions are active on the Westside, including Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey and the LAX area.
If the event is as successful as anticipated, next year the event will be held across the U.S. Then, in 2017, coinciding with the Lions Club International 100th anniversary, the event will span the globe, creating a single day of worldwide vision awareness.
