SAMOHI — Pitcher Alex Gironda sent Santa Monica's baseball team to the second round in style on Friday.
The senior committed to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo no-hit West Covina during a 5-0 win on Friday that sent the Vikings to a second round CIF-Southern Section Division 3 matchup at Peninsula on Tuesday.
The win was Samohi's first playoff victory in six years.
The Vikings finished the regular season 10-0 in Ocean League play and 25-6 overall.
"This has been one of the best seasons in school history," said head coach Kurt Schwengel.
Samohi softball moves on to semifinals
A 3-2 win at Heritage on Saturday in the second round has sent Samohi softball to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs where the Vikings will face Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.
The location of the game hasn't been announced as of press time.
Samohi enters the game 22-8 overall and 10-0 in Ocean League play. The game begins at 3:15 p.m.
