SAMOHI — A 4-1 start to the season has helped propel Santa Monica baseball to No. 7 in the current CIF-Southern Section Division 3 poll.
Head coach Kurt Schwengel gives much of the credit to a pitching staff that is 12 men deep.
Samohi's hurlers, led by Cal Poly-bound Alex Gironda, have posted an earned run average hovering around 1.00.
"It is certainly nice to have 12 great pitchers to choose from, but at the same time I have some very good pitchers who have not pitched an inning yet," Schwengel said.
Next for Samohi is a game Friday at home against Malibu at 3 p.m.
Malibu enters the game with a 5-0 record.
Crossroads, Samohi ranked in v-ball
A pair of Santa Monica-based boys' volleyball teams have made it onto the CIF-SS Division 3 poll.
Crossroads is ranked No. 2 in the division, while Samohi is No. 6.
Crossroads is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Alpha League play. The Roadrunners host Pacifica Christian, another Santa Monica team, Wednesday at 5 p.m.
