So the city of Santa Monica lines up to reverse the Elks' claim on the plots at Woodlawn Cemetery ("City Hall, Elks battle over burial plots," April 18). Is this OK with you, my fellow Santa Monica voters, that our local government has the power to set an arbitrary timeline and if their opponents miss the timeline they lose their rights? In other words, does the city of Santa Monica have a right to set a certain time limit for response, set the ground rules, indicate the documents needed and dictate the terms? Are we OK with the city's land grab? Do we the people have a responsibility and duty to protect our rights? We would prevail well if the answer is yes.
The current Santa Monicans for Renters' Rights administration (my opponents) enjoy unprecedented power. Are you, my fellow voters, tired of surrendering our rights so easily?
