The Montana Avenue Branch Library will reopen this Saturday after being shuttered Jan. 16 for renovation, city officials said Thursday.
Major features of the branch’s interior improvements include new carpeting and paint; new shelving for books and media collections; added book displays; a more “efficient” service desk; more self-checkout stations; additional seating in the teen area; and a new configuration for Internet-accessible computers on the adult side.
“With its 50th anniversary a few years behind us it was time for the Montana Avenue Branch to get some much needed attention,” said City Librarian Greg Mullen. “What started as a re-carpeting project was expanded to a general freshening. The Montana area neighbors have been active supporters and users of their branch library.
“I invite them to drop in to see what’s been done.”
An open house is planned for the end of March.
The branch is located at 1704 Montana Ave. Its hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The branch is closed Fridays and Sundays.
The library is wheelchair accessible. The branch is served by Big Blue Bus Line 3 and the Crosstown Ride. Bicycle parking racks are available. For more information, visit the library’s website at smpl.org
