A firefighter received minor injuries battling a blaze at a house here on Wednesday, officials said.
More than 40 Santa Monica firefighters, with assistance from Los Angeles firefighters, were called to 1334 Ashland Ave. just before 1 p.m., said Suzanne Post of the Santa Monica Fire Department.
No one was at home at the time. Knockdown took 86 minutes, Post said. Extinguishing the fire was made particularly difficult because of a metal clad roof in place on the structure.
There was extensive damage to the roof and ceiling of the approximately 4,000-square-foot single-family residence, she said
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
