Sunday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 2400 block of Ocean Park Boulevard regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim, who told officers that he came home and saw that the suspect, a roommate, had taken some food without permission. When the victim confronted the suspect about allegedly taking food, the suspect struck the victim on the side of the head with a ceramic mug. The suspect then allegedly attempted to stab the victim with a broken portion of the mug. The suspect fled, but was located a short distance away. The victim was not treated for injuries. The suspect was identified as William Czahor, 35, from Santa Monica. He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and warrants. His bail was set at $32,874.
Saturday, May 16, at 11:30 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1600 block of Wilshire Boulevard — Staples — regarding a suspicious person trying to open an account with fraudulent information. Officers were able to determine that the suspect was attempting to open a commercial account for a business without authorization from the owner of the company. The suspect, Thomas Hogan, 37, of North Hollywood, was booked for unauthorized use of information to obtain credit. His bail was set at $50,000.
Saturday, May 16, at 10:50 a.m.,
Officers on routine patrol near the Third Street Promenade were flagged down by someone concerned about an individual pulling down strings of lights from trees in the 1300 block of Third Street. As officers attempted to stop the suspect, he allegedly continued to pull down the lights. The suspect then fled the location. He was stopped a short distance away and placed under arrest for vandalism and warrants. The suspect was identified as Donald Utz, 52, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $40,000.
Saturday, May 16, at 6:16 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 300 block of Pico Boulevard regarding a robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who said he was attempting to pay for gasoline, about to put money into a kiosk, when the suspect allegedly approached the victim and grabbed a $20 bill out of the victim’s hand. The bill ripped in half. The victim demanded his money back. The suspect, with a closed fist, proceeded to punch the victim in the face numerous times, police said. As the victim fell to the ground, he pulled off the shirt of the suspect. The suspect then fled from the location. The suspect was located in the 200 block of Bay Street hiding in a dog run. The suspect, Ryan Jackson, 31, a transient, was booked for strong-arm robbery. He was not eligible for bail.
Saturday, May 16, at 10:52 p.m.,
Officers were patrolling the 1500 block of the beach near the waterline. The officers observed several individuals in possession of alcohol in glass bottles. Officers approached the suspects regarding the violations of alcohol and glass on the beach. As they talked to one of the individuals, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from his body. Officers asked if the suspect had any marijuana. The suspect allegedly said he had some in his pockets. Officers searched the suspect and located the marijuana and some methamphetamine. The suspect, Luis Iturbe,19, of Mission Hills, was booked for possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $10,000.
Thursday, May 14, at 12:44 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 900 block of Third Street regarding a bicycle theft. A witness told officers that they saw the suspect enter a carport and leave riding a bicycle. Armed with a description of the suspect, officers located the suspect in the 1400 block of Fourth Street. Officers were able to locate the owner of the bicycle. The suspect, Guillermo Manjarrez, 29, of Los Angeles, was booked for burglary. He was not eligible for bail.
Thursday, May 14, at 1:45 a.m.,
Officers allegedly observed a vehicle being driven the wrong way in the 3100 block of Second Street. The vehicle stopped in the 2900 block of Second Street. Officers said the driver exhibited signs of impairment. Officers administered a series of field sobriety tests. The officers believed that the driver had been driving while impaired. The driver, Jessica Strickland, 24, of Sherman Oaks, was booked for DUI. Her bail was set at $5,000.
Monday, May 11, at 11:25 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2500 block of Pico Boulevard regarding individuals spray painting graffiti on a wall. Officers arrived and saw seven individuals spray painting a wall. As officers approached, all seven individuals attempted to flee. Six of the seven individuals were stopped. The suspects were booked for felony vandalism. One suspect was a 17-year-old juvenile who was released to a guardian. The other suspects were identified as Isias Lopez, 18; Rafael Ramos, 19; Christopher Diaz, 18; and Ryan Lara, 18; all from Santa Monica, and Javiar Martinez, 19, of Los Angeles. Bail was set at $50,000.
Monday, May 11, at 1:50 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2200 block of Ashland Avenue regarding a trespassing. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim who said the suspect entered the residence and removed items without permission. Police said the items stolen included jewelry valued at $13,000. The suspect, Chaya Corzine, 23, of Century City, was booked for burglary and possession of a controlled substance. Her bail was set at $40,000.
