Wednesday, April 1, at 5:17 a.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 800 block of Woodacres Road regarding a report of a break-in. When officers arrived, a caretaker told them that a man broke the rear glass door and entered the house. Officers located a man sleeping on a couch. He was placed under arrest for residential burglary. The suspect was identified as Richard Warren Moffatt, 66, a transient. His bail was set at $50,000.
Monday, March 30, at 3 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 300 block of Colorado Avenue — Sears — regarding a report of a shoplifting suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they made contact with the store’s security guard who told them he observed a man hide two shirts and a watch on his person and walk out of the store without paying for the items. The security guard detained the suspect outside of the store and placed him under citizen’s arrest. Officers interviewed the suspect and he was booked for commercial burglary and violation of parole. The suspect was identified as Shane Dwight Toseland, 23, a transient. No bail was set. The value of the items recovered was $58.
Monday, March 30, at 1:42 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2600 block of 32nd Street — Ocean Park Motel — regarding a report of a burglary. A motel employee told officers that a man who was believed to have tried to break into a guest room at the hotel the night before was seen in the area. Officers detained the man and then spoke to a hotel guest via telephone who told them that the suspect tried to enter a rear room via a window but ran off when confronted by the guest. The guest positively identified the suspect as did officers using footage from the motel’s security camera. The suspect was arrested and booked for burglary. He was identified as Robert Bruce Williams, 59, a transient. His bail was set at $50,000.
Tuesday, March 31, at 6:05 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Third Street — H&M — regarding a report of a theft in progress. When officers arrived, they made contact with store security who said they placed an employee under citizen’s arrest who was suspected of stealing money from a cash register since November of 2008. Store security said the employee stole $1,200 during that time period. He was placed under arrest and later booked for grand theft. He was identified as Alexander James Feldhaus, 22, of West Hollywood. Bail was set at $20,000.
Saturday, April 4, at 8:38 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1500 block of Second Street — Parking Structure 8 — regarding a report of an auto burglary. The alleged victim told officers that she saw a man rummaging through her glove box as she approached her car. After the man saw the car’s owner, he ran, while his alleged accomplice, who was acting as a lookout, drove off in another vehicle, police said. The victim followed the vehicle until officers arrived and detained the driver. Officers searched the car and found burglary tools and electronic items believed to have been stolen, police said. Officers placed the driver under arrest for auto burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. She was identified as Passion Champagne Rainey, 18, from Lawndale. Her bail was set at $20,000. The alleged accomplice was not apprehended.
Sunday, April 5, at 5:40 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cedar Street regarding a report of possible drug activity going on in the area. Officers contacted three females and one male at a residence. Officers learned the male was on parole, in possession of a crack pipe and a small amount of crack cocaine. The man was arrested and booked for possession and violation of parole. He was identified as Eugene Banks, 49, of San Pedro. No bail was set.
Friday, April 3, at 7:48 p.m.,
Officers went to the LAPD Pacific Division to pick up a suspect wanted in connection with two residential burglaries in Santa Monica that occurred on Jan. 20, 2008 in the 600 block of Pacific and Grant streets. SMPD forensics technicians recovered DNA evidence at the scenes of the burglaries and later obtained the suspect’s identity. The suspect was found by LAPD officers and detained until SMPD arrived. The suspect was taken into custody and booked for robbery. He was identified as Isael Margarito, 22, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $50,000.
