A man with a knife disrupted traffic for a brief period on Pico Blvd. Wednesday morning.
According to SMPD, officers responded to The Manor (1905 Pico) at about 7:55 a.m. for a report of a former resident entering the building to argue with a current resident.
The Manor is an Adult Residential Facility, licensed by the State of California, which provides room, board, care and supervision since the 1960’s for persons with mental illness, and for those with developmental disabilities.
According to a statement from SMPD, James Latham pulled a small pocket knife and brandished it at the victim before fleeing the scene. Police were called to the property and made contact with Latham who was described as uncooperative.
“Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Crisis Negotiation Team Representatives were on scene, and made several attempts to make the suspect comply. The street was shut down for the safety of the suspect and public. He was then taken into custody without further incident,” said Lt. Rudy Flores.
According to Flores, Latham was charged with criminal threats, brandishing a weapon and resisting arrest.
