On Wednesday evening May 5, at 10:24 p.m. Santa Monica Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a Traffic Collision on the eastbound Interstate 10 Freeway, east of the Centinela Ave. off ramp. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a significant two vehicle collision with five victims, two of which required specialized rescue tools to extricate from the wreckage. Three patients were treated and transported to local hospitals by SMFD Paramedics with moderate to severe injuries. Tragically, one victim was killed in the collision.
A total of 23 Firefighters and Paramedics responded to the incident along with our partners from McCormick Ambulance. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) provided traffic control and is the lead agency on the investigation.
