Erik Huberman: What made you want to become an entrepreneur?
J: I have realized over the years, in order to achieve a certain goal, you have to start your own venture at some point in life. The great part about that is you are able to create a mission and value for the goal that you are pursuing. Selecting a team with value and heart built into their positions also becomes a high priority that goes a long way. It is truly an exhilarating experience.
E: Tell me about SyncFab
J: I came back from working overseas for about 15-20 years. My original mission was to figure out how to do onshore manufacturing. We are an online product design and local manufacturing marketplace providing work for designers, engineers, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, 3D printers and material experts. We aim to improve price transparency and improve communication while raising visibility to the richness of local manufacturing and fabrication resources.
E: How are you changing the world?
J: Accelerating reshoring through communal best practice sharing of advanced manufacturing processes along with encouraging environmentally responsible efficient design for manufacture and materials.
E: Why Santa Monica?
J: Santa Monica has a rich design community with close proximity to Southern California's vast manufacturing resources representing the highest concentration in the nation. Santa Monica is also my native home, my father works for the city and I love our community.
E: Do you have one piece of advice for an entrepreneur starting his or her own business?
J: Before you dive straight into something, do a lot of soul-searching for a mission you can be passionate about and conduct through field research when putting together your business plan to come up with a needed service model that matches your mission statement.
E: Is there anything you'd like to share with the Santa Monica community?
J: SyncFab aims to empower designers to better source local manufacturing also helping inventors and small business to source more local design, all in support of the local community. We want to empower designers, encourage environmentally responsible processes and material usage, bring visibility to local manufacturers and increase output by leveraging idle regional capacity.
