CORSAIR FIELD — Santa Monica had no answer for Valencia's passing game Friday during a 41-13 drubbing at Santa Monica College.
Valencia quarterback Sean Murphy carved up the Samohi defense all night, racking up five touchdown passes en route to the win.
It's the second lopsided loss in a row for Samohi, who fell to Mater Dei last week in a rout.
"Guys are not doing what they are supposed to do," Samohi head coach Travis Clark said. "This stuff is correctible."
Valencia dominated the first half rolling to a comfortable 28-0 lead.
Samohi was able to muster some offense during the second half. Touted wide receiver Sebastian LaRue was inserted as the quarterback, running a wild cat-type offense.
The tactic opened up space for Samohi to run its regular offense behind quarterback Ryan Barbarin, who connected with LaRue for a score to cap a drive that began with the wide receiver behind center.
"We've been working on it all summer," Clark said of the LaRue at quarterback situation. "It was successful."
The loss sends Samohi to 2-2 on the season as they prepare for another Southern California heavyweight in Hart next Friday on the road.
