BEVERLY HILLS — The latest meeting between bitter rivals Santa Monica and Beverly Hills was no contest on Friday.
Samohi football walked away with an overwhelming 76-0 win over Beverly Hills on the road, improving to 4-3 overall and more importantly 2-0 in Ocean League play as the Vikings try to three-peat as league champs.
Samohi wasted little time scoring first.
With 10:31 remaining in the first quarter, running back Ryan Chamberlain plunged into the end zone for a 1-yard score.
On the next kick off, Beverly Hills' Damiyon Brown muffed the play allowing Samohi's Josh De La Rosa-Issac to recover the ball.
Just eight seconds off the clock after the first score, Samohi made it into the end zone again, this time with a 25-yard pass from quarterback Nico Basile to Trent Hill. After a missed point after attempt, Samohi led 13-0 and never looked back.
"They are hurting over there," Samohi head coach Travis Clark said of the 0-7 Beverly Hills Normans. "I take my hat off to them, they never quit. They were just overwhelmed."
The game was never really in doubt, but Samohi's players weren't bowled over by the big win. Instead, they came into the game with the same mind set as usual.
"It wasn't an expected win," said Samohi running back Will Taylor, who missed most of the second half due to a banged up midsection. "They just couldn't stop us."
Samohi entered the second half up 48-0 and kept the pressure on.
Chamberlain scored again just two minutes into the third quarter as referees let the clock run.
CIF-Southern Section rules dictate that the clock keeps running during the second half if a team is down at least 30-0.
With the clock not stopping, the second half went by mercifully quickly, but not without more Samohi fireworks to the tune of three more touchdowns — mostly by backups and underclassman.
"We're not satisfied," said Samohi running back Kwame Duggins, who scored three touchdowns. "We just have to keep this rolling."
Next for Samohi is a road game at Culver City on Friday. Culver City enters the game 3-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
"This win is certainly confidence building," Clark said. "I'm just glad we left here with the win."
