I was born in Santa Monica and regularly walk along the beach and the Venice Boardwalk. I have never seen the immense suffering I saw today. One man was so skinny I didn’t even know there was a human under a pile of rags until I heard the adult male groan. I didn’t help him, despite being someone who helps the homeless almost daily. I told myself he was so close to death, it would be mercy to let him die. I ran into others like him tonight. One man had laid down in the street hoping someone would run him over. It was just too much for me. I ask that anyone with extra blankets in their home, bring them down to Ocean Park/Venice Beach.
