Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 100 block of Broadway regarding a report of a possible burglary. When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim who said he lives on the second floor of an apartment building and that a man broke a window, climbed into his apartment and exited through the front door. Officers located the man in the area and he was positively identified and arrested. Officers later learned that the man lived above the victim and was possibly drunk and had fallen from the third floor to the one below. He allegedly broke the window so he could enter his neighbor’s apartment and get back to his own. Officers placed the man under arrest for felony vandalism. He was identified as Cash Christoph Dultz, 33, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $20,000.
Saturday, April 25, at 5:10 p.m.,
Officers on patrol in the 1600 block of Stanford Street observed a man sitting in a parked car. Officers made contact with the man and discovered he was on parole. Officers subsequently searched the vehicle and found the man to be in possession of a small amount of rock cocaine, a hypodermic needle, a crack pipe and a woman’s checkbook and wallet, which were believed to have been stolen. The man was placed under arrest and booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and illegal possession of a hypodermic needle. He was also found to be in violation of parole. He was identified as Harry Austin Bevington, 48, of Culver City. No bail was set.
Saturday, April 25, at 6:21 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2400 block of Pico Boulevard — Rite Aid — regarding a report of a possible theft. When officers arrived, they made contact with store employees who said a man walked into the store and stole eye drops and lip balm. When the security guard attempted to detain the man outside the store, he allegedly pushed her and fled on foot. The man later returned to the store and was taken into custody by officers, police said. He was booked for strong arm robbery. He was identified as Cheyenne Jones, 18, of Inglewood. His bail was set at $50,000.
Friday, April 24, at 4 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 800 block of 14th Street — Planet Blue —regarding a report of a theft. When officers arrived, they made contact with store employees who said they saw a woman with a 3-year-old child walk into the store and attempt to steal two pairs of blue jeans valued at $517. Police said the woman tried to use tin foil to cover the security tags on the jeans. The woman was held by store security until police arrived. Officers placed the woman under arrest for commercial burglary and child endangerment. The Department of Children and Family Services was notified. The suspect was identified as Gloria Martamoro, 57, of Los Angeles. Her bail was set at $100,000.
Thursday, April 23, at 1:59 a.m.,
Officers in the 3400 block of Pico Boulevard stopped a vehicle they believed was being driven by someone under the influence of alcohol. While officers were conducting a field sobriety test the passenger of the vehicle allegedly urinated on the sidewalk. Officers believed the man was drunk and unable to care for himself and placed him under arrest. The man allegedly resisted. Officers placed him under arrest for public intoxication and resisting arrest. The driver was arrested for DUI. The passenger was identified as Emmanual Carrasco Ruiz, 23. He refused to give his home address, officers said. His bail was set at $10,000.
Wednesday, April 22, at 1:54 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Fifth Street regarding a report of a burglary. When officers arrived, they made contact with a witnesses who told officers they heard glass breaking at the old Greyhound station building, which was empty. The witness said he saw two men inside the building and called police. Two men fled on foot and were apprehended a short time later. One of the men refused to comply with officers and physically resisted arrest, police said. The two were booked for commercial burglary. The first suspect was identified as Chad Michael Busto, 29, a transient. He was also booked for resisting arrest and seven outstanding warrants. His bail was set at $25,016. The second suspect was identified as Christopher Joseph Benton, 32, a transient. He was also booked for violation of probation. His bail was set at $30,000.
Wednesday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1200 block of Third Street — Barnes & Noble — regarding a report of a theft at the bookstore. When officers arrived, they made contact with store security who said a man and a woman took two journal notebooks valued at $24.95 and walked out of the store without paying for the items. Store security detained the couple and held them until police arrived. Officers placed the two under arrest for commercial burglary. The two were transported to the Santa Monica Jail, where they were thoroughly searched. Officers said the two were in possession of an ecstasy tablet and marijuana. The suspects were identified as Jennifer Nicole Smith, 20, and Nicholas Cavert Funtanilla, 28, both of Texas. Smith was also booked for possession of a controlled substance. Her bail was set at $25,000. Funtanilla was also booked for possession of marijuana. His bail was also set at $25,000.
