A woman led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase along the 10 Freeway before driving her car into the ocean near the Venice pier late Saturday night.
Officers initially tried to stop the woman for speeding before she fled from Los Angeles towards Venice. Upon reaching the ocean she drove her car into the surf where it became stuck.
She abandoned the vehicle with two dogs inside and began swimming offshore while onlookers tried to encourage her to surrender. Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and lifeguards intervened, rescuing the woman and the dogs. The woman was taken into custody and the dogs were handed over to animal control.
