Friday, Aug. 27, at 10:55 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to Bay Street regarding a robbery that just occurred. When officers arrived, they saw several people standing outside pointing at a man running onto the beach. They told officers that the man was the suspect in the robbery. Officers started chasing the suspect, who allegedly began discarding items. Officers stopped the suspect and he was positively identified by the witnesses. The victim told officers he was walking on Ocean Front Walk when he was approached by four men who pushed him to the ground and took his cell phone, headphones and around $20 in cash. While detaining the suspect, another victim approached who said he was robbed, the suspect in custody allegedly taking his skateboard. The suspect was placed under arrest for robbery. He was identified as Benjamin Diaz, 20, of Santa Ana. His bail was set at $50,000.
Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m.,
Officers conducted a narcotics search warrant in the 1100 block of 12th Street. During the search, officers used a K9 narcotics detection dog. The dog located cocaine and Vicodin, police said. The suspect, Derrek Sanders, 30, of Santa Monica, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $30,000.
Thursday, Aug. 26, at 9:40 a.m.,
Officers were patrolling in the 2900 block of the beach when they were flagged down by a city employee regarding a subject cutting the center of a palm tree. Officers detained the subject. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was allegedly cutting young palm fronds to make art to be sold at the Santa Monica Pier. The city employee advised that when the core palm fronds are severed, the tree is a total loss and will eventually die due to its inability to grow. Officers arrested the suspect, Joshua Oakley,19, a transient, for felony vandalism. The suspect was transported to the jail. While in the holding cell, the suspect allegedly carved, “Kill Cops,” into a bench. He was subsequently charged with damage to a jail facility. His bail was set at $21,000.
Friday, Aug. 27, at 6:10 p.m.,
Officers observed a subject allegedly casing carports in the 1300 block of 14th Street. Officers recognized the suspect from a previous incident where he stole a bicycle police used to lure thiefs. The officers observed him go into a courtyard of an apartment building and exit riding a bicycle. When officers attempted to detain the suspect, he fled. After a short foot pursuit, officers again detained the suspect. The suspect refused to comply with any of the officers’ instructions as they attempted to handcuff him. As the suspect resisted arrest, one officer sustained a broken hand, another officer a sprained foot. The suspect was taken into custody and booked for grand theft, felony resisting and probation violation. The suspect was identified as Jeffrey Livotto, 19, of Santa Monica. He was not eligible for bail.
Saturday, Aug. 28, at 4:20 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 1500 block of Sixth Street regarding a report of a fight in progress. When officers arrived, they made contact with a woman who was splattered with blood that did not belong to her. Further investigation revealed that the blood belonged to a man who apparently lived with the woman. The woman said both went out with different groups of friends. She came home early and went to sleep. The man allegedly came home, broke down her door, wanted to argue, punched a window, grabbed a knife and tried to grab the telephone so that the female could not call police. Officers placed the man under arrest for vandalism, damage to phone service, brandishing a knife and a probation violation. He was not eligible for bail. He was identified as Clint Eskenazi, 35, of Santa Monica.
Saturday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1300 block of the beach regarding an attempted kidnapping. When officers arrived, they were advised that the suspect approached a 6-year-old girl and tapped her on the head with a sandal. The suspect then allegedly went over to a 4-year-old boy and grabbed him and started to run away. The victim’s father gave chase and got his kid back. The suspect flees. Shortly after, officers receive another 911 call in the 1200 block of Palisades Park regarding a man who was hitting people and taking off his clothes. Officers believed the man was the same suspect who tried to kidnap the child. The suspect left the park and was seen walking eastbound on Wilshire Boulevard. As he was in the 100 block of Wilshire, he allegedly pushed a child over and then sat on the hood of a car. Officers took the suspect into custody for kidnapping, child annoyance and for being under the influence of PCP. He was identified as Daniel Hamburger, 36, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $100,000.
Sunday, Aug. 29, at 1 a.m.,
Officers responded to the 200 block of Broadway regarding a check the status call. Upon arrival, the caller advised officers he believed his life was in danger from methamphetamine users. The subject stated he was on parole. Further investigation revealed the subject was on parole and he was in possession of methamphetamines and a syringe. The suspect, Shawn Chambers, 24, a transient, was booked for possession of a hypodermic needle, methamphetamine and a parole violation. He was not eligible for bail.
