On Tuesday, September 1, at approximately 7:55 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to a Disturbing the Peace call on the 2600 block of the Beach, where two male transients were involved in an argument. Upon arrival, Dispatch notified Officers that the subjects were now physically fighting and one had been struck with a stick. Officers contacted both parties and learned that the argument began over property that had been left near the restrooms. Suspect, Douglas Torres approached the victim and they engaged in a heated stare down which then escalated into Torres hitting the victim on the face with a 3’ pole. Torres was arrested for a 245(a)PC-Assault with a Deadly Weapon and transported to SMPD jail by a Jail Staffer. The victim did not desire prosecution, Torres was released on September 3.
