On June 18 at about 3:26 p.m., Santa Monica police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Palisades Park regarding a robbery that just occurred.
The victim told officers that the suspect, an acquaintance, just got out of jail asked him for $5. The victim did not give the suspect any money, which made the suspect angry and threatening.The victim walked away from the suspect, but the suspect continued to follow and taunt him.
The suspect threatened to take the victim's stuff and pulled out a metal box cutter. The suspect punched the victim in the face while the victim used his skateboard to knock the box cutter out of the suspect's hand. The twostarted to wrestle, causing them both to fall over a nearbyrailing.
The victim took the box cutter and threwit since he was scared the suspect was going to use it on him. The suspect then fled on foot.
At about 5:35 p.m., the victim called police and said he saw the suspect at 7th Street and Arizona Avenue. When officers responded, the suspect refused the officers' commands and resisted arrest. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Harry Lewis Shepard, 33, transient, had bail set at $100,000.
