Hi, I’m Julius. Better known as Jovial Julius! I’m a seven-year-old orange tabby who has great skill in making even the cloudiest day feel like a ray of sunshine! A welcome wagon by nature, with warm meows, I’m the first to greet you and inquire about your day. Notoriously chatty, I inspire in-depth, thought-provoking conversations, and quality exchanges of TLC. Since having fun is a top priority to me, playtime with you is essential. But I must warn you, this is known to cause happiness and laughter, in even the grumpiest of people. Ultimately, my favorite place is at your side. With me, you’ll never feel lonely. I’ll always follow you while joyously head-butting and rubbing around your legs, reminding you of just how special you are! Julius, ID #A060634 is available for adoption at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter located at 1640 9th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404. The shelter is closed to the public and adoptions are by appointment only by calling the shelter at 310.458.8595.
PET TIP OF THE WEEK: GETTING TO KNOW SANTA MONICA ANIMAL CONTROL
Santa Monica Animal Control is best known as the animal police that writes tickets. But their enforcement lies in their commitment to protect the public and animals, facilitating the adoption of shelter animals, and being a resource to the community.
The Santa Monica Animal Control Unit is a section of the Santa Monica Police Department that enforces animal ordinances. They also operate the Santa Monica Animal Shelter.
Public safety is at the core of Animal Control. Pet laws are safeguards for the community. The enforcement of these laws promote responsible pet ownership, preserves the well-being and rights of residents, and defends the rights of animals by ensuring that they are treated humanely.
Animal Control advocates for the safety and rescue of all types of animals, not just domesticated pets. They respond to any and all calls of animals in distress, and take custody of stray pets. If pets are found stray, every effort is made to locate their owners. If owners are not located, or owners relinquish their pets to the animal shelter, Animal Control provides care and any rehabilitation necessary to ready them for adoption.
Animal Control Officers are the caretakers of the animals at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter. From cleaning kennels, exercise, playtime, and giving them tons of TLC. To networking the animals, and engaging with potential adopters to ensure they are placed into appropriate homes. They are dedicated to enriching the lives of the animals at the shelter, and work tirelessly to place them into forever homes.
Animal Control is a resource to the community. They participate in local events like the Buy Local Santa Monica Wellness Festival, National Night Out, and events hosted by the City of Santa Monica. At these events, animal control staff run their own booth offering information materials on animal safety, wellness, resources, and information about their adoptable animals. Sometimes bringing adoptables in tow to introduce to people! Most important to them is having the opportunity to personally meet residents to answer questions and address concerns. They also encourage calls to the Santa Monica Animal Shelter to speak to them directly.
You can contact the Santa Monica Animal Control by calling the Santa Monica Animal Shelter, Tuesday through Saturday, between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM at 310.458.8595. To report an animal related issue that requires an immediate response, you can also call the Santa Monica Police Department Dispatch, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 310.458.8491.
