The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces plans to close a lane in each direction of Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1/PCH) from the McClure Tunnel in Santa Monica to the Malibu Lagoon Bridge in the city of Malibu, due to funds from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
From Monday, September 16 through Saturday, September 21 between 8 p.m. - 6 a.m., the following closures will be in place:
One northbound AND southbound lane along various locations of PCH between McClure Tunnel in Santa Monica to Cross Creek Rd. in Malibu.
Some closures may start and end later. All closures are weather permitting and subject to change. Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes. Drivers can check traffic conditions before they leave by visiting the Caltrans Quickmap.
The work is part of a $5.5 million pavement preservation project will that repair pavement in all four lanes of Pacific Coast Highway and slurry seal the roadways between the McClure Tunnel in the city of Santa Monica to the Malibu Lagoon Bridge in the city of Malibu.
SB 1 provides an ongoing funding increase of approximately $1.8 billion annually for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the state highway system. SB 1 funds will enable Caltrans to fix more than 17,000 lane miles of pavement, 500 bridges and 55,000 culverts by 2027.
Caltrans reminds drivers to be “Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
