A suspect wanted in connection with a murder investigation was arrested Saturday in Santa Monica after an hours-long standoff with authorities.
The suspect, later identified as David Carrillo by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, had barricaded himself inside a residential unit in the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard, authorities said in a news release.
SWAT officers descended on the complex near Lincoln Boulevard at about 12:30 p.m., and ordered the suspect to surrender as nearby residents were evacuated and traffic was closed in the area.
Carrillo, 28, was taken into custody without incident at about 4:30 p.m. after authorities' use of tear gas inside the residence and assistance from a K-9 unit, the release said.
Carrillo was wanted in connection with a murder investigation stemming from a Feb. 10 incident in the 8000 block of Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles, according to the news release. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the sheriff department's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Information can be shared anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
