A 42-year-old man has been charged with stabbing his mother and father at their Santa Monica home, killing his mom, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced today.
Stephen Lloyd Fader (dob 9/10/76) of Brentwood faces one felony count each of murder and attempted murder.
Deputy District Attorney Morgan Mallory said the charges include special allegations that Fader used a knife as a deadly and dangerous weapon and that he inflicted great bodily injury upon his father who is older than 70 years old.
The defendant pleaded not guilty today and is scheduled to return on March 11 in Department W31 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch. Case SA099891 was filed on Feb. 4.
Howard Fader, 82, and Sharon Fader, 75, both were stabbed multiple times on or between Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, according to the criminal complaint. Sharon Fader died as a result of her injuries.
If convicted as charged, Stephen Fader faces a possible maximum sentence of 32 years to life in state prison. Bail is set at $3 million.
The case remains under investigation by the Santa Monica Police Department.
