A passenger train rolled into Santa Monica for the first time in decades Friday morning, breaking through a banner. Dignitaries posed with a surfboard to mark the occasion.
And what an occasion it was.
After years of anticipation, the Expo Line extension from Culver City to Santa Monica became part of the region's growing transportation network.
The 6.6-mile extension features seven stations, including three in Santa Monica: 26th Street/Bergamot, 17th Street/Santa Monica College and the Downtown Santa Monica terminus.
“The opening of the Expo Line extension today is a great reminder that we have come a long way in a short time,” Metro CEO Phil Washington said in a press release.
