A Santa Monica Vons store was recently named the top fundraiser in a Safeway Inc. charity campaign to raise funds for people with disabilities.
The store, located at 710 Broadway, raised more than $11,000 during the April fundraiser to benefit Easter Seals Southern California, a group that provides services for people with disabilities through job training, employment, pre-school and after-school services and teaching daily living skills.
More than 280 stores in Southern California participated in the month-long campaign, asking customers to make donations to Easter Seals at the register.
“The Santa Monica Vons on Broadway consistently ranks as a top fundraising store in Los Angeles County during the April fundraiser,” said Mark Whitley, chief executive officer of Easter Seals Southern California. “We are very grateful to all employees and customers who participate, especially in the current challenging economy.”
A division of Safeway Inc., Vons has been a consistent supporter of Easter Seals, participating each year in the fundraiser.
“Vons is a decades-long supporter of Easter Seals and we are proud of their work to help people with all disabilities gain independence,” said Daymond Rice, director of public affairs and government relations at Vons.
