CITYWIDE — It’s scary how many Halloween-themed events are taking place in Santa Monica over the next few days. Here’s a brief list of some fun things to do to celebrate the ghoul in you.
Lift with your legs
The “All You Can Carry Pumpkin Patch” will be open at the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Second Street today. For $5, you can wade your way into a sea of pumpkins and walk away with as many as you can carry. Cruise down the 25-foot runway with small, medium or large-sized pumpkins. Whether you carry them on your head, in your arms, or make them fly (since you are a wizard this year), it doesn’t matter, just as long as you don’t drop them. Onlookers and participants are all welcomed. This event will be held at the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Get haunted
The YWCA Santa Monica on 2019 14th St. is hosting their annual Haunted House on Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children; $5 for meals. With a kid friendly spook, admission will include snacks, treats and more. A collection of games, mazes, balloons, crafts, face painting and a costume parade will be included. Ticket proceeds will go to support the YWCA Cycle of Life programs.
Boo!
Halloween is a holiday like any other — there is history behind it. At the Santa Monica Playhouse, located at 1211 Fourth St., on Oct. 29 and 30, Halloween will be explored through the ages with lively and interactive music. The “Halloween Hullabaloo” will also include face-painting and treats and will be open to children of all ages. Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $10.50 for children 12 and under. On and hoppin’
Montana Avenue is hosting its third annual Halloween Hop from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 31. Children of all ages can enjoy trick-or-treating up and down Montana Avenue as stores will be handing out treats of all kinds. Activities for kids include face painting, temporary tattoos, fortune telling and a dog costume contest. There will also be lots of candy! Some stores will be showcasing Halloween artwork created by local kids. A few of the stores participating by handing out candy are: Cheryl Fudge, Estell, Jonathan Adler and more. Freaky Friday
Wokcano, located at 1413 Fifth St., will hold a FANGtastic Friday Halloween Party on Oct. 28. The party starts at 9 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. With a 450 person capacity, the outdoor venue in Downtown will feature a live DJ all night, complimentary appetizers up until 10:30 p.m. and a raffle ticket dinner package. There is bottle service available at (310) 458-3080. Advanced ticket costs are $15 with limited quantities. Or purchase the dinner package, which includes admittance.
Fright night
The sixth annual Dusk-to-Dawn Horrorthon at the Aero Theater will take place on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m., complete with free food, giveaways, trailers and other surprises. Coffee courtesy of Pete’s Coffee, Monster Energy Drink and prize getaways will be offered from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Enjoy a night in the theater watching scary films with scary people. Helping Halloween
The Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF) will hold their 12th annual Dream Halloween fundraiser event at Barker Hangar — 3021 Airport Ave. — from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. The event will be hosted by actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Billed as Los Angeles’ premiere Halloween event for families, the fundraiser will feature a trick-or-treat lane with costume characters, treats for kids, arts and craft activities, face painting, sponsor reception and gourmet food from Los Angeles’ finest restaurants. Trick-or-treat the library
All children and teens who come into any Santa Monica Public Library branch on Halloween dressed in their costume will receive a spooky prize, while supplies last.
