PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Santa Monica detectives are asking for the public's help in solving a residential burglary in which over $10 million worth of art, jewelry and wine were stolen, authorities said Wednesday.
Along with numerous high-end paintings, two wooden box art pieces, a red 2010 Porsche Carrera 4S and a small amount of cash were also missing when the owner of the home, located on the 500 block of 12th Street, returned from a trip last week, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
Police responded to the home on Sept. 14 on a report of a residential burglary that occurred sometime between Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. and Sept. 14 at 8 p.m.
Watches that were stolen include a Glashutte Senator, a Breitling Chronomat OR and a TAG Heuer GT. Some of the watches sell for tens of thousands of dollars. Police did not say which types of wine were stolen.
The paintings include work by Joseph Cornell, one of the most celebrated exponents of assemblage; Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist known for his non-representational form, which he termed Neo-Plasticism; Franz Kline, an abstract impressionist; and Frank Stella, who worked in the areas of minimalism and post-painterly abstraction.
