The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Santa Monica from Thursday, September 5 at 11am to Saturday, September 7 at 8pm. The alert covers all Los Angeles County beaches, the Malibu Coast and Palos Verdes Hills.
According to NWS, there is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone, especially for the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those active outdoors.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Santa Monica libraries offer a relief from the heat for local residents. Los Angeles City and County have also opened cooling centers throughout the region.
