The famous solar-powered Ferris wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will be lit blue this week in support of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles, spcaLA. The Go Blue campaign started on Monday, April 19 and will last until Friday, April 23. The lights can be seen from sunset until 12 a.m.
Additionally, a slide is in rotation at the L.A. Coliseum that says, “Go Blue for spcaLA,” and last Friday night the pylons at LAX were also lit blue.
The Go Blue for spcaLA campaign is to remind L.A. area residents that all the donations made to spcaLA help thousands of abused and abandoned animals in the region. They hope to emphasize that despite misleading national advertising, the donations contribute to animals strictly in this area. There is not an spca umbrella organization that distributes funds.
The spcaLA is a nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Southern California since 1877. Donations run programs and services including cruelty investigation, disaster animal response team, humane education and a variety of shelter services.
In case you can’t make it out to the pier, there is also live camera footage of it online which you can access by going to www.pacpark.com, and then clicking on the “View Our Live Cam” tab.
